Covid-19 cases are increasing again in the UK, but the dynamics of this wave will be different because the majority of adults have been vaccinated. Martin McKee was immediately convinced that a third wave of Covid-19 was imminent when the first data on the new Delta form of Sars-CoV-2 began to trickle in between April and early May. McKee, a professor of European public health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, was particularly taken aback by estimates of Delta’s R number, the average number of persons infected by a single virus. “It was clear that this was…

VW, too, is committed to phasing out the internal combustion engine and specifies a phase-out period. Critics would have liked to see an earlier phase-out for gasoline and diesel engines. Following in the footsteps of the Group’s subsidiary Audi, the core brand VW has now also named a concrete time frame for the final departure from the internal combustion engine. “In Europe, we are exiting the business with combustion engine vehicles between 2033 and 2035,” VW board member for sales Klaus Zellmer told the Münchner Merkur (Saturday). In the U.S. and China, he said, the exit will take place somewhat…

The metropolis of Sydney is at a standstill – a two-week lockdown has been imposed. The reason: the delta variant is spreading rapidly. Many people in the country are frustrated by the low vaccination rates. Countries in Europe have so far looked at the Corona situation in Australia with a mixture of envy and admiration. While Germany endured months of lockdown, life seemed to go on almost normally at the other end of the world. Australia sealed its borders in March of last year – and kept the numbers consistently low with rapid local lockdowns and strict quarantine rules for…

Three days after the devastating collapse of half a high-rise building in Florida, more bodies are being recovered. Well over 100 people are still considered missing, but due to the circumstances, hopes of finding them alive are fading. A lawsuit is already underway against the building’s owner. After the partial collapse of a high-rise building in Florida, the number of dead has risen to nine according to authorities, 152 people are still considered missing. This was confirmed by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava yesterday (Sunday). Four more bodies had been found in the rubble, moreover, other human remains had…

The turnout was low. Nonetheless, there was apparently already enough for a winner in the first round of voting: the conservative head of the judiciary, Ebrahim Raisi. His competitors have already congratulated him, as has outgoing President Ruhani. According to official partial results, Ebrahim Raisi won Iran’s presidential election with more than 62 percent of the vote. Of 28.6 million ballots counted, “more than 17.8 million” went to Raisi, the chairman of the national election commission said Saturday in Tehran. According to the statement, runner-up Mohsen Resai received only 3.3 million votes. The outgoing president, Hassan Ruhani, said the winner…

Technology group Bosch has received a major order from cellcentric, the joint venture between Daimler Trucks and the Volvo Group for truck fuel cells. The supplier will supply electric air compressors for the company, which aims to become a leading global manufacturer of truck fuel cell systems, Stefan Hartung, head of Bosch’s Mobility Solutions division, told the Stuttgarter Nachrichten newspaper (Thursday). This air compressor is technically similar to the turbocharger used in combustion vehicles. Hartung sees this as an indication that technical concepts for the fuel cell “very much offer a perspective for the German locations”. A Bosch spokesman would…

Since his appointment to the Board of Management two years ago, Ola Källenius has been focusing the Daimler Group more quickly on electromobility. Officially, he does not want to do without vehicles with conventional combustion engines for some time yet, but he is no longer planning any major investments in this area. Now rumors are gaining new momentum, according to which Daimler is preparing for an earlier end to gasoline and diesel engines – at least in Europe. Källenius wants to further accelerate the electrification of the model range of the core Mercedes-Benz brand in particular, according to Manager Magazin…

Anyone playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the PlayStation 4 could almost mistake Night City for a ghost town by now. It’s a compromise that CD Projekt makes to improve the game’s performance on the console, most recently with the new patch 1.23 for the sci-fi RPG. If, like me, you’ve played the PC version of the title, you’ll know that there may well be some vehicles and townspeople on and off the roads. This video of the PC version also shows that. The following video shows you gameplay from version 1.1 on the PS4, which was the first major patch for…

A few kilos should disappear gladly – straight after Corona and before the bath season think many Germans that. One thing they do wrong again and again when trying to lose weight, as an expert explains. Who would like to decrease, selects often too strict programs. On the agenda often taut nourishing rules or training plans would stand. Actually they mean nothing else than durable renouncement and constraint, say Personal Coach Jan Magnus Bahmann from Hanover. As examples with the nutrition he calls the strict in the evening renouncement of meals or “blunt calorie counting.” The problem is that, in…

The cards are being reshuffled in online grocery retailing: Rewe is now getting even more involved and is joining the fast delivery service Flink. What the calculations behind this are. There is a gold-rush atmosphere in the online grocery trade. An almost incalculable number of new providers such as Gorillas, Flink, Getir, Knusper and Picnic are currently entering the highly competitive German grocery market. Lured by the significant increase in online sales during the Corona crisis and financed with hundreds of millions of euros in venture capital, the start-ups are competing with established grocers in more and more cities. The…
